Hi everyone,

Training this Tuesday will be held at Blakelock High School from 1830-2115 hrs.
Cadets are to be in full uniform and recruits are to wear a white shirt, black pants, and a tie (if available).

Please review this week's WRO as well as the squadron calendar for upcoming events.
Here are this week's announcements:

This week is a CO's Parade.

Commanding Officer's Parade: A CO's Parade is held once a month (usually the last Tuesday) and are an opportunity for the CO to inspect each cadet and the squadron as a whole. All cadets are expected to attend these evenings and to look as sharp as possible - you don't want the CO to be commenting on your long hair or unpolished boots! The parade takes place during third period at 2020 hrs and parents are encouraged to attend.

Attendance: Last week's attendance was quite good. Thank you to everyone who contacted us to let the staff know you wouldn't be able to attend.

Flying Scholarship Candidates: Great news, the results are in! Capt Hawkes will get in touch with you individually over the next few days to convey the resulsts. Once again, we are very proud of all of you!

OCdt Vick: This Tuesaday will be OCdt Vick's last parade night with 540 Sqn. We wish her the best as she makes the transition to being a full time Regular Force member.

March Break: If you are planning on attending the March Brak trip, please bring your passport on Tuesday.

Thanks everyone!

Weekly Routine Orders 9 - 15 Jan

Hi everyone,

Welcome back! I hope that everyone had a fun and safe holiday.

Training this Tuesday will be held at Blakelock High School from 1830-2130 hrs. Parents are welcome to join us around 2050 hrs for closing and announcements.
Cadets are to be in full uniform and recruits are to wear a white shirt, black pants, and a tie (if available).

Please review this week's WRO as well as the squadron calendar for upcoming events.
Here are this week's announcements:

A very exciting announcement to start off with.  Remember to give your Best Wishes to Capt Shatford and Lt Hartley – They're getting married on January 14th!!!

March Break Trip: if you plan to attend the March break trip, please bring your passport number and expiry date to cadets on Tuesday.

Drill Team: Advanced Drill Techniques and Drill Team Practice. On Thursday evenings from 7 to 9 at Brookdale Elementary school 540 Officers run Advanced Drill Classes and Drill Team practice. Come out and learn and improve! See OCdt Mayo and CV Chander if you have questions. See WRO for details

Uniform: Just a heads up, many cadets have been approached about the lack of uniform standards (ie: badges that need to be sewn on correctly, boots that need to be polished, uniforms that need to be ironed, etc). This Tuesday do not come to cadets in uniform unless you've made these corrections. However, keep in mind that if you show up without your uniform on, you will be written up. If you don't show up at all you better have an incredibly good reason (I highly doubt you all have a bunch of homework after two weeks off). Most of you have this last week off school so make the most of it and work on your uniforms. 540 Squadron will NEVER be a contender for top squadron in Ontario just by chanting an attitude check.

Camp: This Tuesday will be your last opportunity to submit camp applications. If you missed the parent meeting for summer camp please see Captain Bowser on Tuesday. If you are not quite sure if you want to attend camp, apply anyways. We can't submit any additional applications past our deadline.

Attendance: if you are not able to attend a training night please remember to call the Cadet HQ and leave a message. Cadet HQ: 905-842-3232 and Cadet HQ Cell: 905-464-4119

540 Products for Sale: Check out the Website for great 540 product and swag. Everything from water bottles to portfolio’s.

Lottery Tickets: As Mr. Haslett mentioned on our last parade night, we will be selling Lottery Tickets soon. Ground school cadets, if you plan to apply for Glider or Power this summer, it is expected that you take at least two lottery ticket books. Cadets are asked to bring their $50.00 cash/cheque for their lottery books this Tuesday. Once the Squadron’s Sponsoring Committee receives the $50.00, you will be given a lottery ticket book to sell to family and friends. Please see the SSC for details. Please remember that selling lottery tickets is not optional. For those of you who have taken lottery tickets, we would like to see a return of stubs by the end of November. If this is an issue, please speak with the SSC directly.

Registration Fee: Please remember to bring your registration cheque to the SSC. If you have problems with paying the registration fee (ie: you need to pay in instalments, etc) please feel free to contact Mr. Dave Haslett directly at: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Administration: Remember to promptly fill out your Basic health information sheet. See Captain L Lacombe if you have any problems. Cadets new to the squadron as of September do not need to submit a basic health information sheet.

SSC: The Squadron Sponsoring Committee is looking for new member to join its ranks! If you’re interested in helping the SSC please see Mr. Haslett for more information. Mr. Haslett is usually at closing parades.

High School Volunteer Hours: As you can see in the last few emails we have indicated where you can receive volunteer hours. It is your responsibility to record your own hours and present them in a letter detailing: the event you were involved in and how many hours you received. So you’re aware, we are able to confirm these hours by searching our database, but we will NOT look up what you did. A letter should be provided by your school, you fill out the required info, and the staff will confirm it against our own records and sign off.

Letter of Reference: If you would like an Officer/Staff Member to write you a letter of Reference for school, a job, etc please don’t hesitate to ask. However, you must provide information about yourself, accomplishments in and out of cadets, etc. Info such as: length of time with the Squadron/Cadets, summer camps you have attended and the years, awards and recognitions you have received, ect.

Duke of Edinburgh Award: A reminder to all cadets who are interested in entering the Duke of Ed Award program, you need to bring your $20.00 registration fee and give it to Captain M Lacombe during the next training night. No Fee – No Registration!

Thanks everyone!

First Aid Course

Just a reminder to those that have signed up to the First Aid course being held on Dec 29th from 0800 - 2000hrs. Remember to wear comfortable (warm) clothing and to bring a lunch. I've also suggested that everyone bring $5.00 for pizza dinner or bring their own dinner. The course is happening at 170 Kerr Street at the Cadet HQ. If you haven't already done so, remember to bring your $50.00 payment.

We are no longer going to do a few hours on Wednesday night. I guess a couple of cadets were not able to make it. If we can't get everything accomplished on Thursday, then we'll figure out another date from there.

Thanks!

Captain Ohanian-May

Q: What are numbered orders of dress (e.g. C-1 or C-2)?

A: Numbered orders of dress are a list of authorized uniform configurations. C-1 and C-2 are very similar. C-1 is Ceremonial Dress and includes medals, whereas C-2 is Routine Training Dress and specifies ribbons instead of medals. There are also many other orders of dress.
Illustrated descriptions for each order of dress are available on the resources page.
