540 Golden Hawks Sqn has been actively working with and engaging youth in positive activities in Oakville for 60 years.
We are commemorating this auspicious occasion with a very special celebration on Sunday, 27 May 2012.
With diversity, structure and leadership by example as its greatest assets, the Cadet Program is the largest federally funded youth program in Canada. Membership in the Royal Canadian Air Cadets provides thousands of Canadian youth from ages 12 to 18 with unique opportunities to gain valuable life and work skills such as teamwork, leadership, and public speaking, along with the personal benefits of increased self confidence, discipline, initiative and decision making.
Named after the world famous Golden Hawks precision flight team of the Canadian Air Force, 540 Golden Hawks Squadron in Oakville is enjoying a resurgence in popularity nearly doubling in size this year to over 115 cadets. In addition to meeting weekly on Tuesday evenings at T. A. Blakelock High School, the cadets enjoy activities such as wilderness training, field exercises, a marching band, Remembrance Day parades, ground school, and athletic days. Coached and supervised by officers of the Canadian Forces Reserve, cadets progress through stages of increasing responsibilities and leadership, with senior cadets organizing and taking a lead role in many of the activities.
