Squadron Awards

In order to recognize the achievements of 540 Squadron Cadets, a number of awards are presented to deserving Cadets.

These awards may be presented during the following venues: Squadron’s Annual Ceremonial Review (ACR), Dress Rehearsal (DR) or during the Post Annual Celebration (PAC);

Top Fund Raising Cadet

Presented by the Squadron Support Committee to the Cadet who has most diligently participated and excelled in fund raising events. Presented at DR or PAC.

Top Junior Band Member

Presented to the Cadet who has shown consistent interest and significant improvement in band throughout the training year. Presented at DR or PAC.

Best Dressed Award (Top Deportment Award)

Presented to the Cadet who has consistently exceeded uniform, dress standards, bearing, and attitude and set an example of excellence. Presented at DR or PAC

Richard Fahey Trophy for Most Improved Cadet

Presented to the cadet who has demonstrated significant improvement in dress, bearing and deportment. Presented at DR or PAC unless the Fahey family is present at the annual review in which case it will be awarded at the ACR.

Major Brierley Enthusiasm Award

Awarded to the NCM who has demonstrated effusive enthusiasm and drive throughout the training year. Presented at DR or PAC

Squadron Warrant Officer’s Award

Presented to the Cadet in recognition of potential and significant achievements both personally and with the other Squadron members. Presented at DR or PAC

Top Level One Award

Awarded to the cadet who displays the highest level of motivation and enthusiasm within the level. Criteria includes; attendance, attitude and class participation. Presented at DR or PAC

Top Level Two Award

Awarded to the cadet who displays the highest level of motivation and enthusiasm within the level. Criteria includes; attendance, attitude and class participation. Presented at DR or PAC

Top Level Three Award

Awarded to the cadet who displays the highest level of motivation and enthusiasm within the level. Criteria includes; attendance, attitude and class participation. Presented at DR or PAC

Top Level Four Award

Awarded to the cadet who displays the highest level of motivation and enthusiasm within the level. Criteria includes; attendance, attitude and class participation. Presented at DR or PAC

Top Level Five Award

Awarded to the cadet who displays the highest level of motivation and enthusiasm within the level. Criteria includes; attendance, attitude and class participation. Presented at DR or PAC

Drill Team without Arms Award

Awarded to the Drill Team member who shows true dedication and success on the team. Presented at DR or PAC

Drill Team with Arms Award

Awarded to the Drill Team member who shows true dedication and success on the team. Presented at DR or PAC

Top Flight

Awarded to the Squadron’s Top Flight. Presented at DR or PAC

Top Senior Band Cadet

Presented to the Cadet who has demonstrated a high level of musical ability, as well as leadership skills, and dedication to all band members. Presented at the ACR

Giselle Muench Award for Best First Year Cadet

Presented to the Cadet who has demonstrated excellence in optional/mandatory training, academics, community activities, and fundraising. Presented at the ACR

Major John Scott Junior NCM Award

Presented to the Corporal/Flight Corporal or Sergeant who has demonstrated significant personal development and consideration for others. Presented at the ACR

Commanding Officer’s Trophy

Awarded to the Cadet who has demonstrated excellence in all aspects of the Cadet training programme as determined by the Commanding Officer. Presented at the ACR

Royal Canadian Legion Medal of Excellence

Awarded to the cadet whose individual endeavours of a citizenship nature meet or enhance the aims and objectives of the cadet organization Awarded in accordance with CATO 13-16 Annex E. Presented at the ACR

Lord Strathcona Medal

Awarded to the cadet in recognition of exemplary performance in physical and military training Awarded in accordance with CATO 13-16 Annex D. Presented at the ACR

Honour Roll

Awarded to the Squadron’s Warrant Officer First Class in recognition of exemplary performance in a command position. Presented at the ACR
